Gunter ISD welcomes Coach Alan Simmons as our 2024-2025 Head Boys Basketball Coach. Coach Simmons is moving to Gunter from Aledo ISD where he served as the Associate Head Coach. During his time there, the team earned 3 playoff appearances, with the first playoff win in 22 years this past season.
He graduated from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. While attending college, he lettered three years in basketball. Coach Simmons has served as a head coach at Beckville, Lindale, Rockwall, and Tyler Lee. He also served as an assistant coach at Irving Nimitz where the team won their first playoff in school history.
Coach Simmons' career history includes many achievements in the following districts:
Beckville:
Basketball: 3 playoff appearances resulting in Area Finalist and a trip to the State Basketball Tournament in 1998.
Head Tennis: Regional Tournament appearance in 1998.
Lindale:
Basketball: 7 playoff appearances resulting in 5 Area Finalists, Regional Quarter-finalist, Regional Tournament Finals in 2003.
Head Cross Country: State Qualifier in 2002.
Softball assistant: 3 State Tournament appearances and 1 State Championship in 2004.
Rockwall:
Basketball: 4 playoff appearances resulting in Area Finalists in 2014.
Aledo:
Associate Head Coach Basketball: 3 playoff appearances.
Assistant Cross Country: Silver Medalist (Girls) in 2023.

All East Texas Coach of the Year, (1998, 2003)
Faith Seven All Star Game Coach from Texas (2014, 2021)

Alan has been married to wife and college sweetheart, Melody, for 36 years. They have three children and three grandchildren.
